The program addresses the advisory and mentorship providers for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs. The objective of the program is to introduce participants to a wide scope of knowledge as well as lessons learned with regard to financial and non-financial expertise required to provide advisory services for SMEs. Participants will be able to assist their “clients” (SMEs) in growing and progressing either through better utilization of current resources or through acquiring external formal finance. The main outcome would be mentors, consultants and advisors capable of educating their clients for a successful outcome.

EJB Launches the First SME Guide on Access to Finance in Egypt

News On March 31st, 2010
Based on the belief that SMEs represent the engine for growth for our economy, the Finance and Banking Committee of the Egyptian Junior Business Association (EJB) and the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) launched the first SME guide in Egypt to provide entrepreneurs and SME owners’ hands-on solutions and practical tools to improve their access to finance. Six workshops were conducted to foster interaction and cooperation with the different stakeholders representing small and medium enterprises, entrepreneurs, legislators, and financial institutions (including banks, leasing, factoring, private equity firms and Nilex). The “Guide on Access to Finance” is available in Arabic and English for LE 35 at the EJB. Over 5,000 copies have been printed and distributed.

CEC - Market Research and Business Matchmaking in Africa

Are you in the Chemical and Fertilizers industry? Are you seeking to export to New Markets in Africa? The Chemical & Fertilizers Export Council supports existing small and medium Enterprises to achieve the level of constant exporting. It encourages the establishment of new companies in the fields needed to boost their export-oriented production and increase world demand for them through attracting local, Arab and foreign investments to that field. To meet this objective, the Council is investigating African markets (such as Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia) through market research missions to be followed by business matchmaking meetings between importers from these countries and Egyptian exporters.

U.S. State Department announces E-Mentor Corps
News On April 27th, 2010
During the U.S. Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship, the U.S. Department of State announced a new mentorship program to advance entrepreneurship worldwide. The E-Mentor Corps will call on business leaders and proven entrepreneurs in the United States and overseas (including the delegates at the Summit) to serve as E-Mentors to aspiring and emerging entrepreneurs around the world. Studies indicate that mentorship is vital to entrepreneurs’ ability to be successful. The E-Mentor Corps will help to provide mentorship and in the process advance entrepreneurship, innovation and economic opportunity around the world. E-Mentors will commit to provide guidance, insights and support to mentees for at least several hours per month for at least 3 months through various means of communication. It is hoped that many of these connections will spawn longer-term collaboration. The Department of State has received Statements of Intent from leading U.S. organizations (including the Financial Services Volunteer Corps) signifying their commitment reach out to their networks to ask them to serve as E-Mentors.
